Speedtrap Hunting Ohio on Memorial Day Weekend, 2008

Please forgive my delay in posting, as I have just completed an extended road trip of nearly 6000 miles through many states beginning with Steve (Speedtrap Hunter, Ohio) during the 2008 Memorial Day Holiday weekend.

I too must write that I had a fabulous time with Steve, as well. He is as hardcore as I am and the amount of miles we laid down over a three day period was nothing short of incredible.

During my visit with Steve in Ohio I encountered every form of police radar and police laser speed trap currently known to the driving cogniscenti: instant-on and steady forms of X-band (10.5 ghz) radar, K-band (24.1 ghz) radar, Ka-band (33.8 ghz, 34.7 ghz, 35.5 ghz), and of course a healthy dose of police laser (lidar) at 904nm courtesy of Ohio (state and local) traffic enforcement, not to mention several redlight camera photo enforced intersections!

For a working vacation, I must say, that this was one of the most enjoyable driving experiences I have had in a very, very long time.

Continuing with the Veil Guy's pioneering format—of actually driving with the radar detector/laser jammer equipment—for his personalized real-world (radar detector reviews), both myself and Steve pitted the latest high-end gear against the most intense level of traffic enforcement that I have yet to experience in my nearly 30 years of driving...and we both came away smelling like roses!

With gas prices hovering around $4.00 gallon, my trip through Ohio was not inexpensive, to be sure, but at least I didn't experience any other incidental costs (in the form of one of the oldest forms of road-tax, the speeding ticket).

Just as Steve has compiled some videos and pictures, so have I, and it is my pleasure to share some of them with you, for your educational and viewing pleasure.

During our encounters with Northfield Village police and after repeated passes through one of their speed traps, we had attracted the wrong kind of attention from the officers operating radar, so much so that several police vehicles gathered and awaited our return into the city limits.

As I considered driving again through Northfield Village, Steve correctly advised me that we should not return as we would be certain to be stopped and questioned as to our intentions. So, instead, we moved on with our speed trap hunting duties, elsewhere.
